Bill Reed and Lydia Lundberg have received international recognition for their use of technology and innovative design. They were awarded the Computerworld Honors Program 21st Century Achievement Awards in 2001, have advocated for the use of technology in long term care before the Senate Special Committee on Aging, at the White House Conference on Aging, and before the United Nations.

Former club owner adapts green building notions to center


Senior living centers often are referred to as God’s waiting room.

They’re usually designed and run as a subset of the hospitality industry, which means conventional building materials, economies of scale and a lot of waste.

But builder Bill Reed is a maverick. He cut his teeth as a green builder a decade ago, doing the Standard Dairy project at 2808 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Later he operated his namesake Billy Reed’s Restaurant & Bar there. In 2008, he opened the second of his two retirement homes, Elite Care at Fanno Creek in Tigard, along with his wife, Lydia Lundberg, a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging.
